Most homeowners don't think about what's happening inside their attic until something goes wrong. The ductwork, the air handler, the filtration setup - it all lives up there, out of sight. And when it's not working right, you feel it inside the house. Dusty surfaces. Stuffy rooms. Allergy symptoms that never quite go away.
Here's what we typically find when we get up into an attic space: ductwork connections that need attention, filtration that's undersized or missing entirely, and air that's moving through the system without ever getting properly cleaned. That's a problem, because your HVAC system is supposed to be the first line of defense against the particles you're breathing every day.
What we installed here is a Honeywell Home MERV 11 media filter - a 20x20x4 unit seated directly into the air handler plenum. MERV 11 is a solid middle-ground rating. It catches fine dust, pollen, pet dander, and mold spores without restricting airflow the way higher-rated filters can. The filter housing is sealed into the plenum so air has to pass through the filter - no bypassing, no shortcuts. That part matters more than most people realize.
The duct connections in the attic were also addressed as part of this work. Gaps and loose connections mean conditioned air leaks out before it reaches your living space, and unconditioned attic air can pull back in. Sealing those points is part of making sure the whole system functions the way it's supposed to - not just the filter itself.
If your home feels off and you can't figure out why, the answer is often in a space you never look at. A properly set up air filtration system and tight ductwork can make a noticeable difference in how your home feels day to day. We do this work regularly and know what to look for.
